Well for the next few days I’m trying to help my buddy set up his new business. Its not some great new high tech solution. Actually its a simple website that is trying to avoid some Ebay sales. My buddy and his friend make replicas from old war planes and tanks. Ok you can call them toys but there is a market for them.
So they have a long term goal of making their hobby a part-time business where they can actually make a little cash and basically get paid to attend all the tradeshows events that they already attend.
So I’m trying to help them out set up their business which involves some sales online and at some trade and hobby shows. The first thing that I realized is they needed some sort of merchant service so they can accept credit cards for payment. While a business that just sells on the net might use paypal the guys needed some thing that they could use at the trade shows that they attend.
Right now they know that they will sell more at the trade shows than online but they are thinking longterm on the project. With the ability to accept credit cards online they know that once their website grows they will be set up and ready to run. They even though about the rally long term when hopefully they are making some decent dollars. Some of the bigger hobby websites can really rack in the sales so the guys are worried about taxes in the long term. They both have other jobs so they are already paying taxes so they want to try and avoid anymore tax payments. They are looking into using an offshore merchant account because it could potentially save them several thousands dollars in the long term.
